{"title":"HealthWell Foundation","summary":"Independent nonprofit that gives grants to insured people who cannot afford copays, coinsurance, deductibles or premiums, through disease funds covering many cancers and other conditions that open and close as funding changes.","body":"HealthWell Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps insured people pay for treatment when insurance is not enough. It runs disease funds for many conditions, including many cancers. Funds open when money is available and close when it runs out, so the status changes.\n\n## What they offer\n\n- Grants for prescription copays, coinsurance, deductibles, insurance premiums and other selected out-of-pocket costs.\n- Disease funds across many areas, including oncology, hematology, neurology and more.\n- As of October 24, 2026, open cancer-related funds included Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, Mantle Cell Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Ovarian Cancer and Renal Cell Carcinoma (several are Medicare Access funds), Cancer Home Care Services and an Oncology Caregiver Behavioral Health Fund (phone applications only).\n- Closed funds stay open for people who already have a grant, for the rest of their 12-month grant period.\n\n## How to apply and who qualifies\n\nYou need some form of health insurance that covers part of your treatment, a disease and medication on a currently open fund, household income within the fund's limit (up to 300 to 500 percent of the federal poverty level, with adjustments for household size and cost of living), and treatment in the United States. Apply online or by phone; a provider or pharmacy can also apply for you. Grants run for 12 months.\n\n## How it fits with other groups here\n\nFund-based programs open and close, so it helps to check more than one. See [Patient Advocate Foundation](/companies/patient-advocate-foundation/), which now runs TotalAssist, and my [find support guide](/resources/find-support/).\n\n## Questions I would ask\n\n- Is there an open fund for my diagnosis and medication today?\n- If the fund is closed, can I get notified when it reopens?\n- What income documents do you need?\n- Can my pharmacy or clinic apply for me?\n\n## Contacts\n\n- Website: [healthwellfoundation.org](https://www.healthwellfoundation.org/)\n- Fund status: [Disease funds](https://www.healthwellfoundation.org/disease-funds/)\n- Eligibility: [Do I qualify](https://www.healthwellfoundation.org/eligibility/)\n- Phone: 800-675-8416","topics":["expert-support"],"capabilities":["patient-support"],"organizationType":"nonprofit","services":["advocacy"],"communityFocus":["People with cancer","People with chronic illness","Underinsured patients","Caregivers"],"sources":[{"id":"funds","label":"Disease funds","url":"https://www.healthwellfoundation.org/disease-funds/","publisher":"HealthWell Foundation","checkedAt":"2026-10-24","supports":"Status on October 24, 2026: Closed: NSCLC Medicare Access and SCLC Medicare Access; Open: AML, CLL, Mantle Cell Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Ovarian and Renal Cell Medicare Access funds, Cancer Home Care Services, Oncology Caregiver Behavioral Health Fund (phone only); closed funds closed to new patients for lack of funding; existing grants continue for 12 months.","type":"official"},{"id":"about","label":"About HealthWell","url":"https://www.healthwellfoundation.org/about/","publisher":"HealthWell Foundation","checkedAt":"2026-10-24","supports":"501(c)(3) independent non-profit providing financial assistance to adults and children for prescription coinsurance, copayments, deductibles, health insurance premiums and other selected out-of-pocket costs; contact center (800) 675-8416, M-F 9 am to 5 pm ET.","type":"official"},{"id":"elig","label":"Eligibility","url":"https://www.healthwellfoundation.org/eligibility/","publisher":"HealthWell Foundation","checkedAt":"2026-10-24","supports":"Must be treated for a covered disease, have insurance that covers part of the medication cost, income within guidelines (up to 400-500% FPL, household size and cost of living considered), treatment in the United States; providers and pharmacies can apply on a patient's behalf.","type":"official"},{"id":"fpl","label":"Federal Poverty Level guidelines","url":"https://www.healthwellfoundation.org/about/federal-poverty-level-guidelines/","publisher":"HealthWell Foundation","checkedAt":"2026-10-24","supports":"Disease funds have household income limits of 300%, 400% or 500% of FPL; cost-of-living adjustment.","type":"official"}],"applicability":"For insured patients with cancer or another covered condition whose out-of-pocket costs are hard to afford, and for caregivers.
