## Who this is for
Patients in the Netherlands or abroad seeking review of a cancer diagnosis or proposed treatment.

## What they do

The institute reviews the referral and medical file, selects a specialist and decides whether it can provide an opinion. The initial assessment usually takes about five working days.

## Who it’s for

Patients in the Netherlands or abroad seeking review of a cancer diagnosis or proposed treatment.

## How to start

Ask your treating physician for a referral addressed to the institute. Supply the complete medical file and, when relevant, the treatment plan in Dutch or English.

## Cost and insurance

Ask your insurer whether it covers the opinion and request an estimate if paying yourself. Coverage varies by insurer and country.

## What to check

A telephone or video consultation is possible but not guaranteed. The institute may require a visit or decline the request. A second opinion does not transfer your care automatically.

## How it fits

Princess Máxima Center is a separate Dutch pediatric oncology service. Use the program suited to the patient’s age and cancer.

## Questions I would ask

- Which specialist would review my cancer and the decision I am facing?
- Does the review include rereading the actual scans and pathology, or only their reports?
- What will I receive, and how can my oncologist ask follow-up questions?
