## Who this is for
People with an existing diagnosis or a difficult treatment decision. Not every specialty or subspecialty participates.

## What they do

Summus helps collect records and match you with a UCSF specialist. The doctor reviews the file and provides a written opinion, typically seven to ten days after records are assembled.

## Who it’s for

People with an existing diagnosis or a difficult treatment decision. Not every specialty or subspecialty participates.

## How to start

Choose the written-opinion route or a doctor appointment. Be specific about your cancer and the expertise you need when speaking with Summus.

## Cost and insurance

As of October 2026, UCSF lists $900 out of pocket for the remote written opinion. Doctor appointments have separate insurance or self-pay arrangements.

## What to check

The written service does not include speaking with the reviewing doctor. Confirm specialty and location eligibility before payment.

## How it fits

As with Stanford’s written opinion, receiving a report is different from booking a live specialist appointment. Choose the format you need.

## Questions I would ask

- Which specialist would review my cancer and the decision I am facing?
- Does the review include rereading the actual scans and pathology, or only their reports?
- What will I receive, and how can my oncologist ask follow-up questions?
