# Record every appointment, and let AI do the remembering

A 30-minute appointment is a firehose, and it's easy to forget half of it. I ask permission, record each visit, and let AI pull out what matters and log it in my notebook, so every visit makes the next one smarter.

## Who this is for
For patients and caregivers who leave appointments remembering only part of what was said, especially people seeing several doctors or talking with trial teams.

Appointments move fast, and it's easy to forget things. A 30-minute visit is a firehose: long explanations, jargon, 6 things to remember while you're scared and exhausted. You walk out remembering maybe half.

So I record every care conversation. In person, phone, video, trial teams. I ask first, every time. Then AI does the remembering for me.

I don't want my care to depend on the half I happened to remember.

A lot of doctors already record visits, with AI scribes writing their notes. A recording of your own just puts you on the same page.

## Step 1: Ask permission, every time

This is the part you don't skip. Before anything starts, I ask if it's OK to record. Every visit, every call, every new person.

## Step 2: Record, and let AI do the rest

The recording isn't the magic. What AI does with it is. Here's what happens to mine:

1. An AI notetaker records the visit and emails me a summary.
2. My AI reads it and tells me the 5 things that actually matter for me.
3. It logs them in my Notion notebook, next to every other visit, scan and trial call.
4. Next visit, it already knows what the last doctor said, and flags when two doctors tell me different things.

30 minutes of noise becomes 5 lines I can act on. And it builds over time, so every visit makes the next one smarter.

If you don't have a notebook yet, start there: [give your AI a notebook](/cancer/resources/ai-health-notebook/).

## Step 3: Keep the audio private

Never post raw audio anywhere. Recording is for my decisions, not for content.

## Keep going

- [Give your AI a notebook](/cancer/resources/ai-health-notebook/) so every summary has somewhere to live.
- [Ask AI about your health with rules, not open questions](/cancer/resources/ask-ai-about-your-health/). They work great on a visit summary.

I'm not a doctor and this isn't medical advice. It's what's working for me. Please talk to your care team before you change anything.

## Limits and context
One patient's personal practice, not legal or medical advice. Always ask permission before recording, every time, and respect the answer. AI summaries can miss or misstate things, so check anything important with your care team. Never post raw audio.

## Relationships and disclosures
No paid placement. I use Notion as an ordinary user. I have no investment, advisory role, paid partnership or other financial relationship with Notion.
