## Who this is for
For people who expect surgery or a biopsy and want some of the tumor tissue kept for future testing, research or personalized treatment. Inclusion is not a recommendation or a finding that this service is right for your situation.

StoreMyTumor preserves tumor tissue from surgery or biopsy so it stays available for you later. Standard pathology usually keeps only fixed tissue in paraffin. Live, frozen tissue can matter for some newer tests, organoid work and personalized treatments, and it has to be arranged before the procedure. StoreMyTumor says it has offered this service since 2011.

## What they offer

- Storage in more than one format: frozen viable tissue, frozen fixed tissue and paraffin (FFPE).
- Tissue from surgery or biopsy, and also ascites fluid.
- A collection kit and an overnight courier to its lab. StoreMyTumor says kits are kept on site at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
- A report on what was stored, sent to you and your oncologist.
- Transfers you direct later, to a lab, trial or treatment program.

## How it works and what it costs

You set it up before surgery, and your surgeon and hospital pathology team need to agree to release the tissue. StoreMyTumor does not post fixed prices. Its site says exact prices depend on the formats you choose and to call for details, with separate fees for monthly storage and for transfers (checked October 23, 2026).

## How it fits with other services here

My [biopsy tissue guide](/resources/preserve-tissue/) covers what to ask your surgeon first. SpeciCare and Kernis Health offer similar patient-owned tissue storage. Once tissue is stored, functional testing companies such as [Travera](/companies/travera/) and [Palitra](/companies/palitra/) may be able to use fresh or live samples.

## Questions I would ask

- Which formats do you recommend for my cancer and procedure, and what does each cost?
- What are the monthly storage and transfer fees?
- What do my surgeon and pathology lab need to do on the day?
- How quickly must the tissue reach your lab, and what happens if a shipment is delayed?
- Who owns the tissue, and how do I authorize a transfer?

## Limits and context
Service details and prices are reported by the company unless noted, as of October 2026. Your hospital and surgeon must agree to release tissue, and stored tissue is not guaranteed to be usable for any particular test or treatment. Confirm current requirements and costs directly.
