Cancer Patient Lab is a patient-led nonprofit based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It was founded in 2022 by Brad Power, who has written about using advanced diagnostics and evidence to go beyond the standard of care for his own cancer. The group brings patients and caregivers together with researchers and clinicians to learn what's possible.

What they offer

  • Regular learning sessions with scientists and doctors. Recent topics include tumor tissue preservation and personalized cancer vaccines; a September 2026 session featured pathologists David Booker, MD, and Ken Dixon, MD.
  • A community of patients and caregivers working through similar decisions.

How to join and what it costs

Sign up for sessions on the website. Check there for current sessions and any costs.

How it fits with other groups here

Cancer Patient Lab is education and community, not a service provider. Pair it with my biopsy tissue guide and personalized vaccine guide. Its founder also co-founded OpenCancer, an AI research tool reviewed by Cancer Commons scientists.

Questions I would ask

  • Which past sessions cover tissue preservation or vaccines for my cancer?
  • Can I bring a question about my case to a session?
  • Are there members who have banked tissue or tried a personalized vaccine?
