HealthWell Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps insured people pay for treatment when insurance is not enough. It runs disease funds for many conditions, including many cancers. Funds open when money is available and close when it runs out, so the status changes.
What they offer
- Grants for prescription copays, coinsurance, deductibles, insurance premiums and other selected out-of-pocket costs.
- Disease funds across many areas, including oncology, hematology, neurology and more.
- As of October 24, 2026, open cancer-related funds included Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, Mantle Cell Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Ovarian Cancer and Renal Cell Carcinoma (several are Medicare Access funds), Cancer Home Care Services and an Oncology Caregiver Behavioral Health Fund (phone applications only).
- Closed funds stay open for people who already have a grant, for the rest of their 12-month grant period.
How to apply and who qualifies
You need some form of health insurance that covers part of your treatment, a disease and medication on a currently open fund, household income within the fund's limit (up to 300 to 500 percent of the federal poverty level, with adjustments for household size and cost of living), and treatment in the United States. Apply online or by phone; a provider or pharmacy can also apply for you. Grants run for 12 months.
How it fits with other groups here
Fund-based programs open and close, so it helps to check more than one. See Patient Advocate Foundation, which now runs TotalAssist, and my find support guide.
Questions I would ask
- Is there an open fund for my diagnosis and medication today?
- If the fund is closed, can I get notified when it reopens?
- What income documents do you need?
- Can my pharmacy or clinic apply for me?
