Test drugs on tumor cells
Travera
Tests drugs on live tumor cells outside the body and returns a report to the ordering physician.
- Sample
- Live cancer cells. Collection and transport must follow the lab’s instructions.[1]
- Test
- Rapid Therapy Selection measures how extracted cells respond to selected drugs. The company describes panels of up to 20 drugs.[1]
- Timing
- The company lists results in two days after sample collection; confirm logistics and the report date for your case.[1]
- Report
- Results go to the ordering physician for interpretation with the rest of your care.[1]
Before collecting a sample
- Have the ordering physician and Travera agree on the sample and shipping instructions before the procedure. This needs live tumor cells.
- Ask which drugs will be tested and how that list was chosen.
- Ask what clinical evidence supports using the result for your cancer and treatment decision.
- Confirm cost, coverage, sample-failure policy and the next step with your oncologist.
Travera publishes clinical research and describes its evidence as developing. A response in extracted cells is useful information to assess, not a guarantee that the drug will help you.
