Triage Cancer is a national nonprofit that explains the legal and practical side of a cancer diagnosis: insurance, work, disability, money and planning. In 2023 it launched Triage Health to cover people with any chronic or serious condition. Everything it offers is free.

What they offer

  • The Legal and Financial Navigation Program: free one-on-one help from trained attorneys on health insurance, employment, disability insurance, finances, medical decision-making and estate planning.
  • Free webinars, conferences and trainings, with recordings of many past webinars.
  • Quick Guides, Checklists, Practical Guides and Charts of State Laws.
  • An Appeals Navigator for health insurance denials and a Cancer Finances toolkit that lists outside groups offering financial help.
  • Materials and events in Spanish.

How to start and what it costs

Start with Lane, its AI chatbot, which gathers your details and can set up an appointment with the navigation team. Triage Cancer says to expect an email by the end of the next business day. The program is free, with no income, geographic or other requirements (checked October 24, 2026).

How it fits with other groups here

This is where I would go for job protection, disability or insurance appeal questions. Young Lung Cancer Initiative has hosted Triage Cancer webinars, and my find support guide mentions them too. For case management and financial aid funds, see Patient Advocate Foundation.

Questions I would ask

  • What are my rights to time off or changes at work during treatment?
  • How do I appeal an insurance denial for a test or drug?
  • Should I apply for disability, and which kind?
  • What should I know before changing insurance plans?
