ClinicalTrials.gov is the official public registry of clinical studies, run by the U.S. National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health. It lists publicly and privately funded studies in the U.S. and around the world.
What they offer
- Search by condition (for example "ALK-positive lung cancer"), drug, biomarker, location and recruiting status.
- A page for each study with its design, eligibility criteria, locations and contacts.
- Results for many completed studies.
How it works and what it costs
It's free and needs no account. Expect dense language; eligibility lists are long and written for doctors. Save the study's NCT number and bring it to your oncologist, or ask a navigator to help you read it.
How it fits with other services here
Matching services such as Massive Bio do the search for you. LUNGevity and GO2 for Lung Cancer have lung cancer trial navigators. My clinical trials guide covers what to ask about any study.
Questions I would ask
- Is this study still enrolling at the site closest to me?
- Do my biomarker and prior treatments meet the inclusion criteria?
- What would I need to do, and how often would I travel?
- Who covers the costs of the study drug, tests and travel?
