- Focus
- Immunotherapy research; funds early-phase immunotherapy trials.[1]
The Cancer Research Institute is a nonprofit focused on immunotherapy, treatments that help the immune system find and attack cancer. It funds early-phase immunotherapy trials through its Clinical Innovator Award. For patients, it runs a free Clinical Trial Finder with Carebox and has Clinical Trial Navigators you can talk to.
What they offer
- A free, web-based Clinical Trial Finder that matches you with trials based on your answers.
- Optional one-on-one navigation support by phone or email.
- Plain-language explainers on trial basics: phases, eligibility, costs, benefits and risks.
- Pointers to groups that help with trial travel and costs.
How to start and what it costs
Start with the Trial Finder questionnaire, or ask to talk with a Clinical Trial Navigator from the trials page. CRI describes the finder as free (checked October 24, 2026). Have your diagnosis, stage, biomarker results and past treatments handy, since those drive eligibility.
How it fits with other resources here
This is useful for any cancer type, and lung cancer patients will find plenty of immunotherapy trials. For a broader search, see ClinicalTrials.gov, ACS ACTS and my clinical trials guide. My cancer vaccines guide covers newer immune approaches.
Questions I would ask
- Which trials fit my cancer type, stage and biomarkers?
- What phase is each trial, and what is the comparison arm?
- What costs does the trial cover, and is travel help available?
- How far would I need to travel, and how often?
